so cinnamon rolls are probably one of my most favourite things in the world, something I will not give up regardless of my fitness goals or journey.
so I decided to work them in as an occasional treat, so I can fully indulge that craving for soft delicious warm cinnamon rolls, with slightly oozy icing.
the trick to balancing out a healthy way to be able to enjoy the things you love the most, without compromising on richness, is to control your portion sizes when it comes to desserts.
The average calorie amount for a cinnamon roll is between 500-700, ours will come in around 225 (depending on the ingredients you use)

Homemade cinnamon rolls with three different glazes
Ingredients
dough
- 360 g bread flour
- 7 g dried yeast
- 1 whole medium egg
- .5 tbsp vanilla
- 0.5 t tbsp cinnamon
- 160 ml warm milk
- 60 g melted butter
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 30g white sugar
filling
- 180 g brown sugar
- 1.5 tbsp cinnamon
- 60 g melted butter
icing
- 250 g icing sugar
- 2 tbsp cream
- 4 tbsp butter
- splash of milk
- 0.5 tbsp vanilla
valencian orange
- 1/4 tsp flavouring
Mocha
- 2 tbsp chocolate powder
- 40 mls strong coffee
Instructions
- activate the yeast in the warm milk and white sugar
- once foaming add eggs, melted butter, cinnamon, vanilla and flour to a mixer
- once a ball begins to form, remove from mixer
- cover with oiled cling film and allow to proves for two hours
- once proved roll into a large thin rectangle shape
- mix the brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl
- brush the sheet of dough with the melted butter
- sprinkle and rub in the cinnamon filling
- starting with the nearest edge begin to roll towards the outer edge making a snake shape
- divide into 21 portions
- place into baking tins
- leave to prove for another 45mins to an hour
- bake on medium heat for 20-25 minutes

- cream
- vanilla
- mix until thick paste
